Profiles in Leadership: Deborah Haworth
CISO on Building Personal Resilience, Preventing Burnout in the WorkplaceExpectations for CISOs and their teams are at an all-time high, says Deborah Haworth, CISO of Penguin Random House UK. "Over the past two years, we've had a number of organizations pivot the way they work, which brings increased security challenges" and increases pressure on employees, she says.

Haworth says that in order to drive change, leaders need to talk openly about well-being and lead by example in the workplace. "As leaders, we talk a lot about mental health … but we have to role-model those behaviors. If we don't role-model them, then they don't ring true to our employees," she says.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group as part of the CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, recorded at the UKI Cybersecurity Summit 2022 in London, Haworth discusses:
- How stress and burnout are emerging in the workplace today;
- Tools to build personal resilience and prevent burnout;
- How organizations can protect the well-being of their people.
Haworth, CISO at Penguin Random House UK, has 20 years of information security experience, specializing in information security management, security governance, risk management, policy and compliance, cyber defense and response, crisis management, operational effectiveness, complex problem-solving, and motivation and leadership.
