ISMG Announces Release of 2012 Cloud Computing Security Survey Results

Information Security Media Group (ISMG) announces results of its 2012 Cloud Computing Security Survey.

No longer an emerging technology, cloud computing is taking off globally as a way to gain efficient access to critical applications, processes and storage.

Still, as the 2012 Cloud Computing Security Survey shows, cloud initiatives are relatively new for many organizations. Nearly 1 in 3 survey respondents say their organizations are not using the cloud, a strikingly high percentage considering how quickly the computing platform is maturing. Distrust for its ability to secure data remains a high barrier for many organizations. By a 72 percent-to-28 percent margin, survey respondents say concerns about security prevent their organizations from adopting cloud services.

Asked what is their greatest reservation about secure cloud computing, survey respondents say:

  • 22% data protection;
  • 14% enforcing security policies;
  • 9% data loss.

Because of this unease with the cloud, the promises the cloud presents in providing efficient and less costly secure IT solutions have fallen short. More than half of our respondents say their organizations have yet to achieve their cloud computing goals, and nearly 60 percent say their organizations don't have adequate policies to enable secure cloud use.

The 2012 Cloud Computing Security Survey charts the latest cloud trends, including types of cloud implementations most common by industry and region. The results gauge organizations' top cloud security concerns, from vendor security to data governance and breach preparedness, and predict the top areas of investment for organizations most concerned about cloud security.
