RSA Conference 2017: A Preview
Britta Glade and Linda Gray Martin of the RSA Conference

RSA Conference 2017 is coming to San Francisco from Feb. 13 to 17. What new sessions, speakers and venues should attendees expect to see? Conference organizers Linda Gray Martin and Britta Glade offer a preview.

This year's event is the 26th RSA Conference, and it comes at an interesting juncture in cybersecurity history. We have just completed a year where ransomware, high-profile data breaches and massive DDoS attacks dominated the news, and in the U.S., a new president has taken office amid speculation over whether Russia tried to influence the election.

"The cybersecurity conversation has never played a more prominent role on the world stage," says Glade, senior content manager for the RSA Conference. "The election cycle has brought to the mainstream an understanding, or at least a discussion, about nation-state attacks ... There are still a lot of unknowns about the new administration and its impact on our industry and the larger business environment, and I'm sure there will be some very lively conversations [at the RSA Conference]."

Among the timely topics to be discussed at this year's event: Electoral disfunction, geopolitics, self-driving cars and the internet of things.

In expectation of another large crowd (last year's event attracted a reported 40,000 attendees), organizers are spreading this year's conference beyond the confines of San Francisco's Moscone Center. Some sessions are being moved to the nearby Marriott Marquis Hotel, which will also host the new Early Stage Expo - a showcase for cybersecurity start-ups.

"This is an additional, small expo for the next generation of cybersecuriuty innovators," says Martin, general manager of the RSA Conference. "It will give our attendees a chance to meet with some emerging companies and discover some new solutions coming onto the market."

In an interview about RSA Conference 2017 (see audio link below image), Glade and Martin discuss:

  • New programs and topics at this year's event;
  • How recent news has influenced the content;
  • Tips for newcomers and veterans alike to maximize their conference experience.

With more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry, Martin is the general manager for all RSA conferences, which take place annually in the U.S., the Asia Pacific & Japan region and the Europe, Middle East & Africa region.

Glade is senior content manager for the RSA Conference. She has been in the learning and security sector for 23 years. She previously headed analyst relations for RSA and in 2014 was recognized as one of the top 10 analyst relations professionals by the Institute of Analyst Relations Professionals.
