Phishing Attacks Remain No. 1 Risk

Targeted Campaigns Three Times More Likely to Target Financial Services
Despite ever-evolving cybersecurity threats, David Knight of Proofpoint says spear phishing attacks are really the greatest worries for most security and risk officers.

"Even though spear phishing is not new, it's still what I hear most about from customers," says Knight, executive vice president of management and marketing for Proofpoint.

Knight says all organizations should be concerned about spear phishing, but financial services is especially vulnerable - banking institutions and organizations are targeted by phishing campaigns three times more often than any other industry.

During this interview, Knight discusses:

  • How big data can be used to monitor and set a baseline for normal e-mail traffic;
  • How employee education and technology have to be married to address socially engineered schemes;
  • The role policy-based encryption plays in e-mail and network security.

Knight oversees product marketing for Proofpoint.
