Electronic Pearl Harbor Prophet Issues Metaverse WarningThe Security Awareness Co-Founder Winn Schwartau Says We Should Be Scared
Testifying before Congress in 1991, Winn Schwartau coined the term "electronic Pearl Harbor." The chief visionary officer of The Security Awareness Company stands by his prediction, pointing to a mounting number of cyberattacks that could crescendo into a major event.
Schwartau also has a new warning: the metaverse. Not, he was quick to say, today's headset metaverse, but the metaverse of the meta point, "where what we consider our default reality will be indistinguishable from what we see inside of a contrived, artificial immersional experience."
"We're just on the way there right now," he added.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Schwartau also discusses:
- Why the metaverse will be like the internet, only worse;
- How personal identifiable behavior will displace personal identifiable information as the great privacy worry;
- Whether it's time to legally clamp down on tech's "reality distortion" affects.
Schwartau is called the "civilian architect of information warfare." He is one of the leading experts on information security, infrastructure protection and electronic privacy and has authored more than 12 security books and received many industry recognitions.
