Cybersecurity Workforce Shortage Diminishes
Clar Rosso of (ISC)² Says Report Shows Substantial Increase in Cybersecurity Pros WorldwideThe shortage of trained cybersecurity workers has substantially declined this year as many more individuals entered the field, says Clar Rosso, CEO of (ISC)², the U.S.-based nonprofit association that offers training to cybersecurity professionals.
The (ISC)² 2020 Cybersecurity Workforce Study shows that 3.5 million individuals globally now work in the field, up 25% from last year. The research also indicates a decrease in the global workforce shortage, now down to 3.12 million from the 4.07 million shortage reported last year - as demand for security pros declined while the workforce grew. The study shows that employment in the field now needs to grow by approximately 41% in the U.S. and 89% worldwide in order to fill the talent gap.

The study also reveals that cloud computing security is the most in-demand skill set, Rosso points out.
Rosso urges security practitioners to examine “their entire ecosystem in which their cloud-based systems are working. Threats can come in from any part of the connected ecosystem,” she adds.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Rosso discusses:
- An overview of findings from the workforce study;
- The skills security leaders must develop and nurture in their teams to prepare for cloud security challenges;
- How to identify adequate security resources during a time of budget constraints.
Rosso has more than two decades of experience helping global professional associations and certifying bodies grow and strengthen member value. As CEO of (ISC)², she is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the association.
