COVID-19: Are We Rounding the Corner?Pandemic Expert Regina Phelps on Variants, Vaccines and Surge Risk
COVID-19 infection rates are down from their record highs, and vaccination numbers grow each day. Are we rounding the corner in this pandemic battle? Keep an eye on the virus variants, says pandemic expert Regina Phelps. We may be on the cusp of yet another surge.
Medical experts are split over whether the variants will overcome the vaccinations and spark another surge. And you can count Phelps, founder of Emergency Management & Safety Solutions, among those who fear another surge is likely.
“The variants are doubling every seven to 10 days in the United States,” Phelps says. “It is a race. The more vaccines we get into people’s arms between now and the end of March, we have a better chance of curbing a substantial surge. However, I am deeply concerned that [surge] is going to happen.”
In her latest video interview with Information Security Media Group, Phelps discusses:
- Progress in the fight to contain COVID-19;
- How virus variants could inhibit recovery;
- Arguments for and against the risk of another infection surge.
