Cloud Security: It's Now an Enabler

Oracle's Troy Kitch on Breaking Down Old Perceptions of Cloud
Cloud Security: It's Now an Enabler

It used to be that security was the one big barriers to organizations embracing the cloud. But Troy Kitch of Oracle says that not only is that barrier coming down, but now leaders are seeing cloud as a security enabler.

In fact, Kitch believes that the very same data security concerns that traditionally have kept some organizations away from the cloud will soon be the ones to draw these same enterprises in.

"Established cloud vendors, with solid security track records ... have the expertise; they have the resources to deploy layers of defense that many companies just can't hope to duplicate in-house," says Kitch, Senior Principal Director, Security Software, at Oracle.

The vendor's advantage, Kitch says, is that security is a core competency, so top investments have been made in state-of-the-art physical and logical security tools and skills, including encryption and privileged access management.

"There are a lot of security practitioners needed in the industry," Kitch says. "Oracle believes we have a lot of those great security people and those resources."

In an interview about cloud and security, Kitch discusses:

  • How cloud improves an organization's security posture;
  • Today's top cloud adoption challenges;
  • Oracle's emerging solutions to meet these challenges.

Kitch has spent over 16 years in the enterprise security industry focused on data confidentiality, integrity and availability. Recently, he has been managing Oracle's go-to-market strategy for hybrid cloud security solutions that include database security and identity management. Previously at VeriSign, Kitch focused on the security concerns of online eCommerce organizations, and while at Veritas (Symantec), marketed risk management, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions. He has a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and is a Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP).
